The nature-inspired Azerbaijan Pavilion has two iconic elements at its core: a leaf and a tree, with a strong symbolic value but, above all, strategic, technical and functional purposes.
The leaf is an air cushion, a thermal tensile and passive buffer, structure that generates a microclimate with little energy absorption.
The large trunk is the Pavilion fulcrum, and the whole space develops around it, both vertically and horizontally. At the top, the tree’s “fronds” create a VIP Area offering a breathtaking view of the entire Expo 2020 grounds, while the “roots”, in the open-air basement area, open to form a stage for events and presentations.
Right inside the basement Fairplatz was appointed as fit-out contractor for the restaurant area, where we realized the Hydroponic Curved Wall and the customized furniture, and the exit space that has been designed as a minimalistic, lean museum exhibit.
This amazing project got two awards in the Exhibitor Magazine Expo 2020 competition in the categories “Best Medium Pavilion” and “Best Theme Pavilion”.
